England along with Welsh Pitted in the Same Group for the 2027 World Cup in Australia

Rugby World Cup 2027 draw ceremony
The group draw was conducted by rugby icons such as two-time World Cup winner Dan Carter.

The English side and Wales have been drawn in an identical pool for the 2027 RWC, promising a major pool stage encounter in the tournament Down Under. They are joined in Group F by the Tongan Ikale Tahi and the Zimbabwean Sables.

This draw mirrors their famous meeting in the pool stages of the 2015 World Cup, where a Welsh win at Twickenham played a part in the English team's surprise group stage elimination.

Key Pool Pairings

Ireland alongside Scotland have likewise been drawn in a group once again, replicating the situation from the France 2023 tournament. In that tournament, Ireland claimed a convincing victory, with Scotland failing to advance to the knockout stages.

Uruguay and Portugal, who each impressed as surprise packages in France, complete that same group.

Significantly, the victors of both Pool D and Pool F cannot meet holders and top-ranked South Africa until the final, assuming the Springboks win their own group.

Knockout Implications

Should the pools play out in line with the current global standings, further top favourites like the All Blacks and France would remain separated from both the English and Ireland all the way to the championship decider.

In that scenario, Argentina would be the other top-ranked nation on the same side of the knockout draw as those northern hemisphere teams.

Tournament Hosts Draw Blockbuster Opener

Tournament hosts Australia have been drawn together with their great rivals and three-time winners the All Blacks in Pool A.

Australia will open the World Cup in the city of Perth on October 1st, 2027 in a blockbuster match aimed at launch the event.

In other groups, holders South Africa have drawn Italy, Georgia and Romania. France are in a pool with Japan, future hosts the United States and Samoa.

Larger Tournament for 2027

Argentina will face the Flying Fijians, Spain and Canada as the World Cup expands to twenty-four nations from the 20 who took part in 2023.

This edition will feature a round of 16 stage for the first time in the competition's existence.

Although the victor of Pool F may be kept apart from some of the game's heavyweights early on, they will meet the runner-up from Pool B – most likely the Italians – in the last 16.

Four of the remaining six pool winners will face a third-placed side from the initial group phase.
